URBAN BLOCK

URBAN BLOCK

Type: Commission
Location: Taizhou, China
Project Period: 2018 -
Function: Multifunctional Block
Status: Ongoing

A shopping passage, four residential towers and an office building are combined to form this multi-functional block in Taizhou.

The distinguished masterplan corresponds to the triangular shape of the plot and reflects the site’s location in the city centre. A walkthrough and a small plaza on the inside open the block to the public.

Each typology is designed in a distinct style, yet the façades are harmoniously tied together by a balanced design. Glass, and dark metal panels contrast with the white cladding of the floor slabs and give the buildings a horizontal emphasis.

KINDERGARTEN NANJING

KINDERGARTEN NANJING

Type: Commission
Location: Nanjing, China
Project Period: 2018 -
Function: Kindergarten
Status: Ongoing

The new Kindergarten of Nanjing Maritime University is situated on a very long and narrow plot. To ensure sufficient lighting we decided to group the classrooms into three separate houses. They are placed on top of the ground floor which does not only house shared rooms, like the assembly hall, special classrooms and kitchens, but also provides a generous roof terrace.

A broad corridor connects all rooms in longitudinal direction and also creates space for encounters and social interaction. The classrooms and bedrooms group around shared spaces designated to circulation, wardrobes and hygiene.

Light and modern materials dominate on the exterior while natural materials create different surfaces and impressions on the inside.

GEM

Type: Competition
Location: China
Project Period: 2014
Status: Honourable Mention
Function: Single-Family Home

For this project we drew inspiration from China’s rich history of wooden architecture.

The design of a prefabricated wooden house is not only a chance to reintroduce wood as a sustainable building material. It also invites to explore the limits of prefabrication and to question the established standards. The project is prefabricated to a high degree, and at the same time is very different from the typical Chinese dwelling.

GEM was awarded Honorable Mention.
